Alex Watts is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne who specialises in intelligent, energetic rock/pop songs.  Backed by his band the Foreign Tongue, usually comprising of Brian Juffs, Jason Jennings and Michael McHugh, the quartet have gone from strength to strength since the release of 2011’s ‘Desperate Love’ EP and their subsequent appearance at that years Queenscliff Music Festival.

Influenced by folk music’s great storytellers, the swagger of Joe Strummer, and the grit and raw emotion of 1960’s r’n’b, Watts soldified his sound with the release of ‘This Haunting’ in 2012, a song co-written with Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything).  The single enjoyed national airplay and, along with it‘s fan-funded film clip, drew the attention of music blogs both within Australia and overseas.  The  band spent the remainder of 2012 touring Australia, performing at many of their favourite venues including Melbourne’s Cherry Bar and Prince of Wales, and Sydney’s FBi Social, creating a reputation along the way as one of the country’s most exciting live acts.

2013 has already seen Alex Watts & the Foreign Tongue perform at one of Melbourne’s most important annual musical events, the St. Kilda Festival, and release a new single, ‘Warned’, a brooding five-minute classic.  Taking cues from the likes of Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe and Neil Finn, this is songwriter-driven pop music at it's best - intelligent, energetic, and uplifting.
