An address by Professor George Williams
Constitutional Lawyer and public commentator
Professor Williams will discuss the extraordinary powers granted to Australia’s secret intelligence organisation, ASIO in the wake of September 11 including the detention in secret and coercive questioning on pain of imprisonment of Australian citizens not suspected of any crime and the indefinite detention of refugees subject to adverse security assessments by ASIO. Recent reviews have recommended major changes in both these areas.
