Professor Alison Sheridan is Head of the UNE Business School at the University of New England and is widely published in the fields of gender and management, human resource management and management education. As she has lived and worked in the New England region for the past 25 years, she has a particular interest in understanding women’s experiences in regional businesses. She has held board positions on the Northern Inland Regional Development Board (2003-2007), the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) (2003-2009, including President in 2008), and is currently a board member of UNE Partnerships (2008- ) and the Community Mutual Group (2003- ), a mutual financial institution with more than $1 billion in assets. She is currently leading project developing a jointly badged International MBA in Social Entrepreneurship with colleagues from the Open University of Catalonia, ESC Rennes, France and the University of Western Sydney.


Presentation
In her presentation, Alison will be reflecting on the insights gained from the research she has done with colleagues about women’s roles in regional Australia, including research on women and small businesses in regional locations, women’s roles in regional development and their contributions to regional economies. Drawing on personal experiences and the wider research in the field, she will be arguing for the need to make visible women’s diverse contributions to regional economies to ensure we maintain robust and resilient regional communities.
