Jim Conway’s Big Wheel boasts an all-star line up of musicians who share a passion for Blues, Jump and Swing. It features the talents of Jim Conway (harmonica/backup vocals), Don Hopkins (keyboards/vocals), Jess Green (guitar/vocals), Stan Valacos (double bass), Andy Byrnes (drums/percussion) and Justin Fermino (Sax/backup vocals).

Each member of Big Wheel brings their own musical tastes to the band, creating an eclectic, quirky mix that works surprisingly well, with Don Hopkins' New Orleans style boogie, Justin’s R&B Sax, and Jess Green’s strong Jazz and African rhythms complementing the diversity of styles at the command of renowned harp player, Jim Conway. This stylistic fusion is evident in the original repertoire that draws on 30’s swing and boogie, 40’s and 50’s rhythm and blues, Jazz, African, Latin and New Orleans Boogie. It’s little wonder that their inaugural CD, Little Story received an ARIA nomination for Best Blues Album in 2004.The band runs like a well-oiled machine, delighting and uniting audiences and critics alike. ABC radio’s Doug Spence observed that ‘everyone co-operates, not competes. Each is a master of what NOT to play….the Big Wheelers are wonderfully relaxed, yet highly alert.’

In these decades of economic rationalism, a six-piece band is a rare treat, particularly with four contributing to the vocals; the harmonies are a delight! Since its inception, Jim Conway’s Big Wheel has performed regularly at festivals around Australia including the Port Fairy, Bellingen, Wangaratta, Brunswick, Blue Mountains, Illawarra, Narooma (Great Southern), Kiama and Balmain Acoustica music festivals. In 2013, the band released their long awaited third CD, Just So, described by Jim as the finest recording of his career.
