“Overcoming adversity in business” with MALCOLM TURNBULL

Wednesday August 4th 2010

Some of you may know Malcolm Turnbull as the Member for Wentworth, however before that he was a successful businessman.

Mr Turnbull graduated from Sydney University with degrees in Arts and Law. He then won a Rhodes scholarship and completed a further law degree at Oxford .

During and after his studies Mr Turnbull worked as a journalist with the Bulletin, 2SM, TCN 9 and the London Sunday Times. He began practicing law in 1980.

He quickly established a reputation as an effective advocate, most notably when he successfully defended former MI5 agent Peter Wright against the British Government in the "Spycatcher" trial.

Mr Turnbull left law for business in 1987 where he was responsible for the establishment and success of many Australian businesses. In particular he has been a determined supporter of Australian technology and in 1994 he co-founded OzEmail. His software companies have won many awards for exporting Australian technology.

Mr Turnbull managed his own investment banking firm in Sydney for ten years until 1997 when he joined Goldman Sachs & Co as chairman of its Australian business and as a partner from 1998.

In 1997 Mr Turnbull was elected to attend the Australian Constitutional Convention. He led the republican case in that Convention and in the subsequent referendum.

Businessman, lawyer, banker and republican – with this breadth of experience, there is something here for all business people in the Eastern Suburbs.

At the lunch, Malcolm will deliver a presentation and then be available for a Question & Answer session afterwards.

As this is a presentation by local Business Associations for business people in the Eastern Suburbs the presentation and Q&A will focus on business issues.

This Lunch Presentation will be a great way to network with other business owners and professionals so:
