Event Details

Mount Everest continues to be a magnet for experienced mountaineers as well as those joining guided expeditions. With such huge numbers now on the mountain many questions arise. Are the risks worth it? Is profit being put before safety? What are the views of the legendary Sherpas? And what can be changed to ensure the story of Everest continues to unfold as one of inspiration and triumph, rather than tragedy?

By joining us you will also be helping vulnerable communities throughout the Himalaya through the education projects of the Australian Himalayan Foundation.

Our amazing panelists include:

Pertemba Sherpa (Nepal) – Triple Everest summiteer & Sherpa elder;

Jennifer Peedom - Acclaimed director of award-winning documentary “Sherpa”;

Guy Cotter (NZ) – Owner, Adventure Consultants, a four times Everest summiteer;

Stephen Bock – Real Estate Agent who realised his dream on a guided climb of Everest;
Andrew Lock OAM – The first Australian to climb all fourteen 8,000 m peaks.

and also via recorded video

Sir Chris Bonington CVO, CBE, DL  (UK) – father of modern mountaineering

Our moderator will be Pete Wells, Everest summiteer, filmmaker & TV presenter.

The audience will be invited to put questions to our panelists and we will screen footage from renowned Everest films & auction rare items of memorabilia.

It’ll be a rousing debate and a great evening.
