The Issue.

Did you know that right now, 7,500 young Australian’s living in aged care because there are few other alternatives? A further 700,000 are being cared for at home by family and friends with limited support.

The Background.

Youngcare, established in 2005 following the inspirational story of one woman’s battle to find relevant and dignified care, is committed to raising awareness of the issue across the nation so that they can drive change and create real choices for young Australians and their families.

It rarely occurs to us that something might happen today that could change our life or the life of someone we love… for the worse…

 But each day catastrophic accidents happen to change young people’s lives forever… car accidents resulting in acquired brain injuries, a diagnosis of MS…  And if this happened there are currently few alternatives for care and accommodation available.  The most likely outcome you would be faced with is to live in aged care facilities where the average age is 83, life expectancy is less than 3 years, and visits from family and friends are less than once a month.

Josh.

Josh believed in Youngcare. He advocated that young people deserve to live young lives, and aspired to influence change and give young people with high care needs options in life. Josh’s belief was so strong he participated in the first ever Simpson Desert Challenge in 2011. This involved walking 320kms across the Simpson Desert in 12 days to raise funds and awareness of Youngcare, an amazing achievement.

Sadly, only 6 months after Josh conquered the desert he was tragically killed in a horrific accident in Thailand.  Eerily if it were not a C2 break that killed Josh, Josh would have been a candidate for Youngcare. I cannot imagine as his wife, seeing Josh live in aged care for the rest of his life receiving care that did not cater to his needs.

In his memory.

Though Josh is no longer here, we are committed to continue Josh’s support of Youngcare.

The ball.

Aim:     To raise in excess of $50,000

The night will involve a delectable 3 course 3 course meal, entertainment, auctions, raffles, and goodie bags for people to take away and learn more of Youngcare and the issue at heart.

DRESS:  Black tie (with your mask of course)

- Shuttle bus to Star City following the event

- Cheap accommodation options available at Star and neighbouring. Please contact event organiser should this be of interest.

 It will be a high profiled event where members of parliament and celebrities will be in attendance.
