Take a fresh look at Easter with two highly contrasting settings of Christ’s final words on the cross. James MacMillan’s emotionally-charged and dramatic cantata Seven Last Words from the Cross is a powerful vessel for the Easter message, while the German Baroque master Heinrich Schütz provides a contemplative setting of sublime eloquence.
Themes of sorrow and redemption are further explored in the heart-wrenching music of Lassus, Victoria and Gesualdo. Award-winning Australian composer Nigel Westlake provides his unique perspective on suffering and the healing power of music in the premiere of a new a cappella movement from his masterful Missa Solis: Requiem for Eli.
