Chasing the Moon plays gypsy jazz and swing with an energy and commitment that's reminiscent of the great jazz of days gone by. The joy is infectious. It makes you smile too.
There is freshness in the way different styles are combined, a mix of hot club with the blues, a touch of folk, flirting with Latin rhythms, lashings of swing and modern elements too. It brings an original and distinctive flavour to the arrangements.
Kathy Bluff provides warm and soulful vocals on familiar jazz standards and French ballads as well as melodic and swinging violin in the tradition of Stephane Grappelli. Paul Burjan is equally at home on gently grooving flute or soaring soprano and tenor sax. Peter Malone's Django-influenced guitar gives the band its distinctive gypsy feel, driving the rhythm section and trading lines with the violin and sax.
The rhythm section of John Conley on double bass and Rudi Miranda on drums lays down the best of grooves. They’re the rhythmic backbone of the band, always in danger of stealing the show and always playing sweet and in the pocket.
Band members have featured with Galapagos Duck, ABC Sinfonia, Castanet Club, Happening Thang, Hippos, Bushwhackers and Musica Viva.
Chasing the Moon’s engaging style has been a hit at numerous jazz festivals.
