The importance of keeping good records cannot be over stated. It can help you to plan for growth and set you on the path to success in your business.

During this 3 hour session you will learn how to keep records to become profitable, stay on the right side of the ATO, borrow money or sell your business for a profit. We will work through exercises that will give you a real understanding of the importance of record keeping.

Key topics will include –

  • Recording day to day transactions
  • Calculating GST on each transaction
  • Recording wages, contractor’s payments and employee superannuation
  • Determining what items are fully tax deductible and what items are partly deductible
  • Keeping track of cash flow

The Presenter - John Kirk

Over the past 40 years and more, John Kirk has worked in the Public and Private Sectors as well as being self employed for 17 of those years. During the 1970’s and through to the early 1980’s he worked as a Purchasing Officer and Systems Auditor for the Australian Department of Defence.

From 1982 to 1984 John held a management position with a retail finance company  before leaving to set up an Insurance and Financial Consultancy. Between 1985 and 2000 John serviced many hundreds of clients and trained over 80 independent sales agents.

Between 2000 and 2003 John worked as a Financial Planner for St George Bank before joining the Australian Taxation Office as a Field Auditor and Small Business Educator. His role there was to facilitate seminars and workshops whilst assisting small business owners to comply with tax legislation.

Since retiring from the Tax Office, John has continued to bring his knowledge and skills to the small business owner through a series of workshops, seminars and personal consulting. He is a registered BAS Agent who has qualifications in Training and Assessment, Small Business Planning and NLP. He works closely with Accountants, Bookkeepers and a Financial Planner to provide quality assistance and up to date information for his business clients.

John’s clients know him as “The Small Business Assistance Guy”. He is the owner of two websites, www.SmallBusinessAssistance.com.au which is a Resource site and www.AussieBusinessNews.com.au  which enables the small  business owner to get their voice “online and out there” via Social Media, Networking, PR and specialised articles.
