Richard Raper - Director of Australian Picking & Passivation Services in Tomago, will be presenting the practical aspects of pickling and passivating steels - What it is, Why it is specified and How to do it - and sharing some of his case studies.

Richard has over 30 years experience working with stainless steels. He started his career in the industry as a boilermaker/welder before moving into internal roles with Atlas Steels, Technical Welding Sales Lincoln Electric and Avesta Welding and Finishing Chemicals. As Business Development Manager with SGM Fabrication in Tomago, Richard saw an opportunity to start a pickling business. In the intervening two and a half years it has grown to become the largest commercial operation of its kind on the east coast, providing in house pickling baths and field services.

Australian Pickling and Passivation Services has been involved with some of the major stainless steel contracts in Australia - conveyor frames for the Hay Point expansion in North Queensland, bellows for the Melbourne Desalination Plant and recently the QGC Water Treatment Plant in the Surat Basin in Queensland.
