ARABICANA WITH ISMAEL FADEL

There is virtually no artist in Australia who can sing old and new Arabic songs in the different dialects of the Middle East, such as the Iraqi, Lebanese, Syrian, Egyptian and Tunisian dialects to name a few. The exception to this is the Iraqi singer ISMAEL FADEL.

"I'm lucky that I can do this. When I grew up in Baghdad, my hobby was to memorise the lyrics of songs of famous Arabic singers like Om Kalthoum, Mohammed Abdul Wahab,Fairouz, Wadi Al-Safi, Abdul Halim Hafidh and Farid Al-Atrash, in addition to those of folklore and contemporary Iraqi singers".

Ismael performed at Camelot Lounge last August and amazingly the crowd constantly joined in to chant with him, and danced non-stop all night. He'll be accompanied by his musical ensemble playing exotic instruments like the oud (a cousin of the lute), darbouka (aka goblet drum) and the qanon (a box zither).
