8pm - Will Martina Trio
Wielding a distinctly individual voice on an instrument too often pigeonholed,
cellist Will Martina managed to carve out a niche in NYC's creative music scene, collaborating with Dave Liebman, Mark Guiliana and Henry Threadgill, among others.
Returning to Sydney last year, he will be revisiting tunes from his previous three albums, plus compositions written especially for the new trio.

9.30pm - Simon Ferenci Quintet

While still a spring chicken, Simon Ferenci is a stalwart of the Sydney music scene, whose breathtaking melodicism and understated firepower on the trumpet has made him a crowd favourite, as well as a player’s player. This set will feature his recent compositions, written specifically for this new band of fine musicians. Musical freedom is the emphasis, with the compositions unfolding differently in each performance.

What is Jazzgroove?

Jazzgroove is a not for profit organisation presenting high-quality original and improvised music from various jazz related cannons. Our focus is on musicians who are in the early stages of forming a national and international career. Jazzgroove's purpose is to nurture upcoming musicians by allowing a platform and performance opportunity to an established audience through our weekly Tuesday double bill events, marketing/ promotion support while also providing a dialogue and mentorship between past Jazzgroove performers and more experienced musicians.
