Three of our finest and most introverted stars, taking the stage to tastefully construct and sensitively deconstruct forms, progressions and elements of the jazz vernacular. Modestly dressed and even adopting stage pseudonyms to reflect their deference to the artform, Pen Island will take you there. Probably more than once.

9.30pm - Prophets

Prophets are beings in vibrant masks known for their focus on polyphonic saxophone improvisation and polyrhythmic percussion that knocks hard. Foremost exponents of the Style-Free movement, members of Prophets come from Melbourne and Sydney and play all musical instruments. A night of the pure cathartic joy of spontaneous music making will ensue.

What is Jazzgroove?

Jazzgroove is a not for profit organisation presenting high-quality original and improvised music from various jazz related cannons. Our focus is on musicians who are in the early stages of forming a national and international career. Jazzgroove's purpose is to nurture upcoming musicians by allowing a platform and performance opportunity to an established audience through our weekly Tuesday double bill events, marketing/ promotion support while also providing a dialogue and mentorship between past Jazzgroove performers and more experienced musicians.
