LEONIE COHEN TRIO     8.30-9.30PM

"Cohen’s piano is glorious. Not only is her playing extremely tasteful & sure, her sound is beautiful". - Greg Levine, Jazz Australia

Leonie Cohen - piano; Hugh Fraser - double bass; Toby Hall - drums

*Cohen plays absolutely beautifully. Superb.* - John Clare, Sydney Morning Herald

*The music is seductive and melodic & the solos are exquisite.* - Dave Curry, Canberra Times

Cohen has performed as a jazz pianist extensively throughout Australia (Opera House, Angel Place, Bennetts Lane, Spiegel Tent, Adelaide Cabaret Fest.) and overseas (Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan & Indonesia).

She has toured with David Campbell, & regularly works with Christa Hughes. She has composed music for and performed in several Sydney Opera House Productions including “Monkey Shines” & "Darlingwood Tales". Most recently, Cohen has returned from a tour of Indonesia and Singapore with Loose Canon Productions.

Together with Hugh Fraser and Toby Hall, Cohen will present music from her two ABC commissioned albums (Jerusalem & Sideshow Pony) featuring an array of beautiful originals and stunning arrangements of jazz standards.

CHRISTA HUGHES    10.00-11.00PM

Christa Hughes is well known to Sydney audiences as jazz diva, cabaret chanteuse, blues belter and vaudeville vamp.

As a teenager, she performed with her legendary father and jazz pianist Dick Hughes. After discovering, and being discovered by, the world in her early 20s, Christa returned to Australia with her one-woman show Beer Drinking Woman, before writing the Sydney Opera House-commissioned post-postmodern cabaret Sleepless Beauty.

She rose the top of the charts as K.K. Juggy during her rock star period with Machine Gun Fellatio, before confounding expectations yet again by becoming the ringmistress of Circus Oz.

Expect to hear tunes from her two awarded jazz albums - mixing 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s tunes with contemporary hits playfully facading as jazz standards.
