FOOD FOR THOUGHT WITH TUNES TO TASTE WITH FRETFEST

Budding musicians are being invited to workshop and perform with the man who discovered Pete Murray, Kate Miller-Heidke and Tom Busby, on Saturday 18th April.

In partnership with Warrumbungle Wild Women (the organising team), that man, Al Buchan from fRETfEST, will be auditioning and working alongside the freshest talent Coonabarabran and surrounds have to offer, as part of the Warrumbungle Food Festival.

The Warrumbungle Food Festival is creating a new paradigm for the diverse peoples that make up the Coonabarabran Community. Making a difference by promoting awareness of healthy food choices and providing the know-how and how-to, to implement these changes into our everyday busy lifestyles. The 5 day festival is a colourful harvest of all things food, embracing the bounty of the seasons by blending performance & innovation with succulent workshops, seminars and demonstrations that you can really sink your teeth into!

fRETfEST is all about self-expression through music. The recent releases of 2 compilation CDs is testament to this.Deep Wateris filled to the brim of songs in support of protecting and nourishing the environment that feeds and sustains us. The other, titledfRETfEST Cafeis a delectable collection of tasty tunes that are easily digestible.

fRETfEST has unearthedsome of the best musicians that Queensland has to offer. Pete Murray is from Chinchilla and he worked with Al Buchan and played at fRETfEST before signing with the world’s leading record company, Sony, and going on to international stardom, selling over 1 million albums. Kate Miller-Heidke met her husband, Keir Nuttall while playing at fRETfEST gigs and together, Kate & Keir went on to write the International Song Contest Grand Prize Winning song, entitled ‘Caught In The Crowd’. Tom Busby impressed the panel of judges at Al Buchan’s fRETfEST singer songwriter showcase in 2004 and went on to form one of Australia’s most loved and respected acoustic duets, Busby Marou.

fRETfEST is a proven music career launch-pad and takes young musicians on tour to festivals and regional communities, and in recent years has been venturing into NSW. The Tamworth Country Music Festival has become a favourite destination, and now, fRETfEST is coming to Coona to seek out new talent, in April.

Culminating in a concert on Saturday night, the talent search will connect musicians with workshop and live performance opportunities, helping lift musicians up where they belong.

“We are looking for songs about food, sustainability and the environment” says home-town girl, Melinda Thompson, now living and working on the Gold Coast as fRETfEST’s administrator. “The workshop and performance opportunities are open to people of all ages. It will be an inclusive opportunity for people of all ages and musical backgrounds to strut their stuff and express their passion for food and environment through their songs.”

fRETfEST Live Performance & Song-writing WORKSHOP will be held in the Shire Hall, 2-4pm Saturday 18th April. Those artists wishing to showcase their talent will then have an opportunity to get up on stage during the Family Appreciation Evening starting at 6pm.

Musicians are being urged to apply now to get involved by visiting stickytickets.com.au or calling into Tastebuds on Dalgarno, or WHHC.
