Fiesta Concert Series – Modern Meets Metal

Led by Drummer Paul Derricott, Arrow explores the fringe of free improvisation, pop music and soundscapes. Following on from the 2010 Arrow release Big Sea This Jazzgroove Fiesta gig will also serve as the launch of the latest album Navigator, recorded and produced by Paul and Eamon.

Navigator features a range of compositions and continues to draw influences from the Sea and travel. Featuring longtime collaborators Eamon Dilworth (The Dilworths, Tiny Hearts) and Thomas Botting (Tiny Hearts), Arrow will feature Ben Hauptman on Guitar.

Prodigious vocalist and composer Gian Slater is one of Australia’s most sought-after and inventive creative musicians, known for her superb musicianship, pioneering vision for vocal music and powerful artistic integrity. Slater is widely respected for her agile, pure voice and virtuosic improvisational ability, making her unique among singers as both a valued sideman as well as soloist. She is a prolific composer, with 8 albums of original music ranging from artsong, contemporary classical works, electronica, jazz and rock, to 5 large-scale works for her acclaimed 20-piece vocal ensemble, Invenio.

In 2012, she received the prestigious Creative Australia Fellowship for innovation and excellence. She is active as an educator, teaching Jazz and Improvisation at Melbourne and Monash Universities.

Late-Night Grooves

The Ottignon brothers have been busy performing in wintery conditions over in Edinburgh this last couple of months and will be amped to be back with Mister Ott for this one. Inspired by the music of horn of Africa, expect eastern mellismatic melodies and hypnotic trancelike rhythms to go head to head with some seriously solid funk grooves.

What is Jazzgroove?

Jazzgroove is a not for profit organisation presenting high-quality original and improvised music from various jazz related cannons. Our focus is on musicians who are in the early stages of forming a national and international career. Jazzgroove's purpose is to nurture upcoming musicians by allowing a platform and performance opportunity to an established audience through our weekly Tuesday double bill events, marketing/ promotion support while also providing a dialogue and mentorship between past Jazzgroove performers and more experienced musicians.
