Hetty Kate Quartet
"A charismatic and technically gifted vocalist..." Chris May - All About Jazz (USA)
"She's truly one of the best swing-style vocalists (I'm talking 1940, Benny Goodman style 4/4 swing) on the current scene.." Will Friedwald's Clip Joint (NYC 2015) James Sherlock - Guitar
Melbourne vocalist Hetty Kate successfully launched her debut album 'Dim All The Lights' at Foundry616 late last year and we are delighted to welcome this extraordinary singer back to delight Sydney audiences.
"Like Peggy Lee on a Vespa" Marc Myers, JazzWax (USA 2013)
British born, Australia based Hetty Kate has become one of Australia's most popular jazz vocalists over her nine year career. In that time she has appeared on 11 albums, performed in four continents and most recently can be seen performing alongside James Morrison and his bands.
Known for her "natural musicality", pure tone and swinging phrasing, Hetty has sung with many of Australia’s jazz greats such as James Morrison, Joe Chindamo and classical piano virtuoso Simon Tedeschi. She has a style reminiscent of the swing vocalists of the 1940s and an extensive repertoire of classics and curios from the hey-day of America.
Part of the ABC Jazz family, Hetty has sung with the Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmanian Symphonies, for jazz festivals around the country, and has toured in the US and Europe - most recently returning from shows in New York, Boston, Paris and London.
For her return show at Foundry 616 she will be joined by Melbourne based James Sherlock (guitar) and Sydney musicians Brendan Clarke (double bass) and Andrew Dickeson (drums).
