6 Master Classes

“Get the Balance Right” : The state of balance is where things are just right. It would only be a right relationship if both sides experience a mutually benefited relationship, where things are just right. This state of balance is a feeling which must be cultivated. Our current view of the world is where humans reside and dominate and is encouraged to use whatever resource to make this living comfortable, while neglecting others’ benefits. This class will be based on balancing postures where we will use our arms, legs and body to achieve a balanced state, thereby understanding the importance of our physical body in relationship to the planet Earth.

“Heart of Compassion” : Jivamukti Yoga is a path towards enlightenment through the means of compassion. This compassion means common passion, if you’re happy, I’m happy! My guru Sharon Gannon always taught that living a vegetarian lifestyle three times a day would be the best practice to show compassion towards sentient beings. This class would be a backbend focus class where the practitioner learns to fill their mind with love and kindness instead of greed and selfishness.

“Free as a bird” : This is a class focus on arm balances and inversions where the practitioner will imitate different asana that takes forms of birds. And it will be a difficult class because surely it is difficult to fly in freedom. How does one cultivate this sense of freedom? The law of karma tells us if we allow those who are caged and exploited to have their freedom through a compassionate diet, one is likely to feel the lightness of flight!

“Twist your DNA” : Culture, government, schools, religions, all tells us how human hold dominion over all other species of animals often in a dogmatic way. Our whole upbringing has been telling us that the earth belongs to humans and it is ok to exploit resources and others for human benefits. This class addresses this misunderstanding from the core of this misinterpretation. The twisting postures acts as a stimulus to allow the practitioner to see things from the opposite direction, allowing one to go up against what we have been blindly accepting.

“Downside UP” : The root of suffering “Klesha” stems from our sense of ego “asmita” which results from our misunderstanding or what is really ignorance “avidya”, non-knowledge. Using our imperfect sensual apparatus, we perceive the world with our senses and often believe that the world is out there for us to see and perceive. We blindly believe things are the way they seem and often this misunderstanding fools us because we are often attached to things we can’t have and reject the things that we are close to. Avidya leads one to see differences, meaning not the same as me. This class will be an inversion-focused class where one will confidently trained to see the world in a new perspective.

“Heart of Hanuman” : In the yoga sutra, there is a one step method to enlightenment, which is achieved through the blessing of the guru. Hanuman is the perfect symbol of bhakti yoga where he is the best example to show devotion to his master, lord “Ram”. This is a class where different split positions will be played leading to a back-bending focus class to end. But all that isn’t important until we learn the importance to let go of ones ego and fills one mind with the guru that embodies all the six perfectionsthat leads to enlightenment.

3 Theorem Lectures

Yoga & Vegetarianism : In the Sadhana Pada of the yoga sutra. Maharishi Patanjali had laid down the 8 limbs of yoga for the practitioner as a practice, the means towards enlightenment through our actions. As the first limb details five “Yama” to be practiced. Interestingly, these five yamas can all be practiced within the lifestyle of vegetarianism. Each sutra will be explained in great detail for its correlation with a vegetarian diet.

Pranayama & Meditation Explained : Pranayama are often portrayed as a mystifying type of practice. Somehow through this magical technique one will luckily achieve some sort of mystical effect. Nonsense. There are specific results that each pranayama (meaning energy-control) will bring upon the practitioner. This lecture will serve to explain pranayama in a scientific perspective, allowing one to know the variables that are controlled in pranayama. Allowing one to be able to create their own pranayamas.

Logical Sequencing : This theorem is especially designed for teachers or aspiring practitioners. Sequencing means knowing the variables and levels of asana and it’s relationship with various forces that exist within the practitioner and also on the planet that one stands on. A messy flowing sequence might look like a terrific dance routine where one will likely get acute or chronic injuries, while a carefully planned out and logical sequence will lead one towards a state of depth or balance. This lecture will dissect popular and complex postures and explain how one use various fundamental poses to lead up to these complex postures which will be achieved with ease.

4 Yoga Sutra Studies

Yoga Sutra Book 1 : Samadhi Pada

This is the book where Patanjali details the five types of mind (vrittis, meaning fluctuations) that one has and they are ALL wrong! Samadhi (same as the highest) is enlightenment where one transcends beyond ALL states of misunderstanding. The exploration of this first chapter of the Yoga Sutra prepares one towards a clear understanding of what ultimate reality “truth” from the most important text that explains what is Yoga.

Yoga Sutra Book 2 : Sadhana Pada

Patanjali lays out the reason why we are not in the state of Yoga and also provides the fundamental “logic” or “law” that one can USE to achieve this state of Yoga. He describes the first five limbs of the eight limbs of Yoga which law is based on the wisdom that is laid down from the four noble truths that was also explained in this chapter.

5 Practical(s)

Two Adjustment Practical(s) (Basics and also advance postures)

Adjustments are connections. Which derives from clear understanding of all the relationships that we are having. As a yoga instructor or aspiring practitioners, having hands-on adjustment skills is probably one of the most important asset that distinguish one amongst the peers. A “just-right” assist will leave a lasting impression of confidence rather than irritation and injury. Detailed and practical adjustment skills will be taught and practiced on a one-on-one alternate partner practice focusing on basic and advance postures that will be suitable for all types of practitioners in the class.

Two Sessions of Pranayama & Meditation (Led)

Pranayama is an understanding of the phenomenon that the thoughts ride on the winds of the breath. Once one can control one’s attention though the control of the breath. Insights will dawn on the practitioner about the nature of thoughts that arises and how to deal with these disturbing thoughts or even use them to transcend beyond conceptual mind.

One Session of Yoga with Props

This is also a very good session for yoga teachers to learn practical and innovative ways to use props that would achieve various goals for both the practitioner and also all the students that may take their classes. Fun ways of using blocks, bolsters, belts, chairs, sticks and walls will be demonstrated to achieve strengthen and stretching purposes in one’s asana practice.

Remark: All asana classes are done on ONE yoga mat and are suitable really for all levels of practitioner. But a minimum of 6 months practice is advised while absolute beginners will find the workshop difficult. Chanting will be experienced, while injured and pregnancy practitioners are encouraged to take huge precautions. Classes will be conducted in English.
