Come and hear three diverse groups give a different and exciting take on Latin American music. Alturas, Voices from the Vacant Lot and Trio Matiz present Latin Encounters of a different kind…… an evening of latin art music far removed from the stereotypical.

This concert sets the scene for you to discover that there is so much more to Latin American music than Salsa!

Inspired by the music of Argentina, Alturas combines influences from classical, latin and tango to create a unique blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos. Alturas have been performing as a group since 2009 with its five members playing flute/bandoneon, violin/viola, saxophones/clarinets, piano and double bass.

Voices from the Vacant is a Sydney based 15-voice mix choir with a diverse and powerful repertoire sourced from a wide range of cultures, their vibrant and powerful live shows have been part of the music scene for more than 25 years. In this performance they travel from Cuba to Bahia and back with joyous songs to lift your heart and spirit.

Trio Matiz consists of highly-regarded Chilean musicians Hernan Flores and Janis Carter with cellist Imogen Granwal. The trio gives new and stimulating interpretations of traditional, contemporary and original Latin American songs for guitar, voice, cello and percussion.
