Jazzgroove presents ......
Tuesdays @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Tues 2 June -
8:00pm Matilda Abraham
Matilda Abraham is a Sydney based singer. She performs her original music as an electronic trio with guitarist Carl Morgan and drummer James Waples.
Matilda’s approach to writing music reflects a clear and honest passion for song. Led by melody, she searches for ideas that provoke a feeling. Exploring a range of dynamic shifts, her music encompasses layers of both electronic and acoustic parts, interwoven with lush vocal harmonies. Matilda’s singing brings a bright and vibrant sound to her diverse original repertoire. Her approach is honest, combining a rich musicality with stark vulnerability and warmth.
Matilda Abraham joins Jazzgroove this program as Resident Artist, performing again alongside JG mentor Jonathan Zwartz on July 21st.

9:30pm Hannah James Trio
Hanging out some new tunes for their first public airing and cutting sic on some old favourites, the Hannah James Trio is getting back in the Jazzgroove! The trio formed in 2011 when Hannah received the Jann Rutherford award for young Women in Jazz. She has since released two albums as leader and has been reviewed by the UK’s Jazzwise magazine as a young bassist/composer with a very bright future. Joining Hannah is pianist Casey Golden, recently nominated for the Freedman awards and a prolific composer and band leader in his own right and Ed Rodrigues, widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative and unique drummers in the scene today.
“This trio can strike hard, but these surges are both passionate and coldly bracing, like an intricate tumble of ice crystals” — John Clare.
Hannah James joins Jazzgroove this program as Featured Artist, and will perform again as a duo in JG Conversation with pianist Matt McMahon on July 21st.
