Telekis a band, a man and, in some parts of the world, a legend.

George Mamua Telek, or Telek as he is known to his legion of fans in Papua New Guinea, has long been at the forefront of the PNG music scene. His voice traverses many musical styles and perfectly captures the spirit of the proud cultural heritage of the Tolai people of Papua New Guinea. His 1997 album Telek won an ARIA for Best World Music Albums, leading to an invitation from Peter Gabriel to record his second album Serious Tam at Gabriel’s Real World Studios.

Telek has received international recognition with his ARIA award and significant back catalogue, and counts David Byrne, Yossou N’Dour and Peter Gabriel amongst his fans.

Join Telek and bandmates David Bridie, John Warbat and Ben Hakalitz as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of PNG Independence and perform songs spanning Telek’s illustrious career in music.

“Telek’s voice on its own is a thing of rare beauty” - Sunday Times, London

Raised in Malaita, Solomon Islands, Charles Maimarosia rose to prominence as band leader for internationally-acclaimed group, Narasirato. After touring across Europe, Japan, and Australia, Charles chose to settle in Melbourne to carve out a solo career of his own, representing traditional Are’Are culture through compelling story and song.
