Please join us for the GEBC February Luncheon with Guest Speaker Lawrie McKinna, Chairperson of Regional Development Australia - Central Coast and CEO of the Newcastle Jets.
Lawrie has profound knowledge of the football industry, both in Australia and worldwide. He has been involved in football at all levels of the game from player to coach to administrator to CEO, which has given him insight and understanding of the current landscape. He is a natural leader with a strong community focus.”
Our 2nd Guest Speaker is Cameron George - CEO of the Vodafone Warriors.
Hailing from Casino, in rural New South Wales, Australia, Cameron George moved to New Zealand in 2006, working in the integrity sector of horse racing and was later the CEO of Auckland Racing Club for several years.
While CEO of Auckland Racing, Cameron was also on the Board of the Vodafone Warriors for 2 years prior to moving on from Auckland Racing Club in July 2017. Cameron had a very short stint as the Vodafone Warriors Chief Operating Officer before moving into the role of CEO in September 2017.
The focus at the Vodafone Warriors for Cameron in his first season has been to turn the club around and create a winning culture and to get fans back to the stadium. In 2018 the Club returned to play in the NRL finals for the first time in 7 years and increased average crowds by 130% YOY which, was a driving factor to a very strong turn around in the Club's commercial performance. In addition, the Vodafone Warriors this year have expanded their number of teams by introducing a Woman's NRL team which played in the inaugural 2018 NRL Competition.
Cameron has significant leadership experience in the sports, entertainment and integrity industry.
Cameron attributes the success of his past roles to empowering quality staff to perform at their best with no limitations on what they bring to the organisation. Cameron has seen too often where leaders take businesses away from its core purpose and over analyse the day to day operations which results in poor culture and business performance. As a leader, Cameron believes it is imperative to stay relevant to your organisation's core purpose.
