Sydney Queer Atheists has run a float in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras every year since 2009, getting bigger and better every year. This year we are the Pillars of Society, having our say about what really holds our communities up.

We welcome anyone who is at least queer-friendly and atheist-friendly to join us. Even if you can't afford the ticket price, we'd hate for you to miss the fun - email Kate at sydneyqueeratheists@gmail.com for a half price or free discount code.

For more information, see queeratheists.org or facebook.com/events/206843132992225

To see what else we do, including the working bees for this float, join facebook.com/sqath or meetup.com/Sydney-Queer-Atheists. Extra pairs of hands are always welcome, and it's a great way to get to know the group!

COSTUME NOTE - You'll want to read this before you fill out the form!

We will be supplying chitons for all participants. In ancient Greece, chitons were gender-specific. Men wore them knee length, with the fabric clipped together over one shoulder. Women wore them long, with more fabric to clip together on each shoulder and drape under the arms. We, of course, don't want to decide your gender expression for you, so you get to choose both the style and the length of your costume! You will be asked three questions to help us buy the appropriate fabric and make up the right sizes:

- Long or short? If you opt for a short chiton, please don't wear anything that will show below the hem. Chiton and jeans just isn't a thing!

- One or two shoulders? We are allowing 2m of fabric for asymmetric one-shouldered chitons, which should be plenty to wrap around most people and close securely with a belt. Two-shouldered chitons are more blousy, with 3m of fabric gathering into the belt. Please also let us know if these standard measurements will be insufficient for you!

- Colour: We are aiming at roughly even numbers of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple chitons. If you are really keen to choose your colour, let us know here. In case of too much imbalance, choices will be first in best dressed. So if you don't care too much about what colour you wear, please leave this space blank!
