Jazz Is Dead......Long live Jazz!

A new initiative of Artistic Director Zoe Hauptmann, SIMA's "Jazz is Dead" band nights will present projects that dwell on the fringes of the Jazz scene, living in the limbo between musical territories.Expressing current trends, different forms and musics from other worlds "Jazz is Dead will be a night of fresh and diverse sound to rattle your bones.

8pm - Danaides

Post-jazz architects DANAÏDES (formerly the Alcohotlicks) expand upon the electro tinged material from their 2012 sophomore release. The trio of double guitars and drums achieve a massively dense sound through the addition of live electronics and triggered samples. Weaving through tight gaps and intricate forms the band contains their furious improvising power in a tense battle between structure and expression. This gig will be like viewing a rare bird in full flight. Aaron Flower (guitar) Ben Hauptmann (guitar) Evan Mannell (drums)

9pm - Carl Morgan's Southern Sky

Southern Sky is the new project from guitarist Carl Morgan, winner of the National Jazz Awards for guitar in 2014. Incorporating elements from genres including electronic music and indie rock, Southern Sky is a sonic journey into the unknown. Modulating synths, heavily effected guitars and dark drum and bass grooves underpin songs emphasising catchy melodies and colourful chord progressions.

Carl Morgan (guitar/vocals) Matilda Abraham (vocals) Harry Sutherland (synths) Brendan Clark (electric bass) Ben Vanderwal (drums)
