Launched into Eternity - Maitland Gaol

Launched into Eternity is a night that delves into the darker side of murder and punishment.

Have you ever considered what drives a person to end the life of another in a brutal way?

Does the punishment fit the crime?

Especially during the time of hangings in Australia?

If you lived in the 1850's would you have gone to witness a hanging?

People used to be so fascinated with the gory details that they attended public hangings in Australia - it would give them something to talk about for the next few weeks!

The prisoner's last words - the gallows - would the hangman do his job properly?

This could not be called entertainment, but ....

The first part of this intriguing evening features our very special guest ,AMANDA HOWARD, best selling Crime Author, who will be talking to us about some of the famous and infamous who have had to face the hangman's noose and of a time when watching an execution was a spectacle for the whole community.

Hear about some of the murderers Amanda has researched and written about as she gives us an insight into the minds of these killers.

This is going to be a fascinating talk by Amanda and you are most welcome to come and take part in this part of the evening only.

The second part of the night will be a real treat and a perfect way to really get an insight into Amanda's information with a 2 hour experience of Maitland Gaol focusing on the murders that happened within the walls of the prison. 

Join Renata Daniel from Newcastle Heritage and Ghost Tours and Anne Rzechowicz from Oz ParaTech (Ghost Hunting Equipment Specialists) and our amazing volunteer team members as we role play the last moments of one of the condemned prisoners who went to the gallows at the Gaol. 

We will read from the newspaper accounts of exactly what and how it happened. 

Will some of these men come back to haunt us this night?

We will also have plenty of time to explore the Gaol during this two hour period.
