Aussie transplant Chelsea Reed proves that evocative lyrics and accessible melodies transcend borders as her formative experiences in Newcastle, Australia now infuse the musical brew she is creating in Toronto, her new home. This triple threat (singer, songwriter, pianist) is preparing to launch her first full-length recording, recorded with the guidance of respected Canadian producer, Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, Jim Bryson) in spring 2017. The album takes the listener through the psyche of this self deprecating but playful twenty-something, exploring the universal themes of connection and purpose through a unique lens, with songs written by Chelsea herself, along with co-writes with some of Toronto’s sought after songwriting veterans.

Piano and voice lessons drew her attention as an early teen, and although she has never really learned how to read music, that didn’t stop her from discovering a gift for songwriting after a jazz composition ended up accidentally becoming a pop song. Her first band was a soul/funk ensemble and she wrote a number of songs in that vein, and then went on to earn her stripes in every kind of cover band, playing pubs, weddings and festivals, singing everything from Billie Holliday to AC/DC.

Her wide-ranging understanding of music made her a natural choice to compose music for two critically acclaimed theatrical productions in Sydney.

Chelsea initially demonstrated her distinctive songwriting with her original fusionof smart folk sensibilities and indie radio pop in two critically acclaimed singles released in Australia, where she was a fixture in Sydney’s vibrant live music scene. Those lucky enough to catch one of her live performances in Toronto’s singer/songwriter venues are captivated by the full-bodied clarity of her velvety voice, and a Canadian tour this summer will allow music lovers from coast to coast to experience this exciting talent and call her Canada’s own.
