"Let's Talk about ... Mental Health"

Macquarie College Presents Mental Health Speaker, Mr Nic Newling. 

This free community event is open to all members of the College community and their guests.

Nic has been working in the field of mental health awareness for almost a decade, speaking with school communities, corporate organisations and the public. Nic speaks candidly about mental health and supporting those around us through open conversations.  His message is universal and Nic has appeared on the ABC's Australian Story  and NBC's Today Show.

It is important that we build and maintain our connections as a community here at Macquarie College, and have meaningful conversations about issues that impact our lives.   Remember, you don't need to be an expert, you just need to be there to be a great mate and a good listener.  

This special presentation is the first event in the College's two week eSmart Program for 2017. Firstly, the "Let's Talk About ... Mental Health" week runs Monday 6th - Friday 10th March and will be followed by a program of activities under the "Bullying ... No Way" banner between 13th - 17th March.

We will hear from Nic about his high school journey, and his family's personal experiences with mental health concerns.  Nic will share ways in which open and supportive conversations can be the key to supporting a family member or friend who you think may not be doing so well.   If you notice someone who might be struggling - start a conversation. 

You are invited to join us at this FREE community event, and you are encouraged to bring a friend or neighbour with you to hear Nic's presentation.  Students will also be attending presentations from Nic during the same day.  So this is the perfect opportunity to begin (or continue) conversations in the home and community which show your support and concern for others who may need a helping hand.
