Social Media Self Defence Training for Women and Girls aged 16+

Facilitator: eSafety Women

Details: Everyone should have the opportunity to use online spaces safely. However, too often women avoid social media or stop using it because of negative experiences and online abuse. Online abuse can hurt you socially or psychologically and can even lead to physical harm. It can take many forms, including stalking and sexual harassment. Common types of online abuse include trolling, sharing or threatening to share intimate images without consent, impersonation and more.

While being online can bring lots of benefits, it can also be a challenging space especially for women because they are more likely than men to be the target of online abuse.

This session will help women and girls to use social media platforms more safely and to make choices about how they engage online. Social Media Self Defence training will provide information to women on how to manage social media platforms safely and report online abuse.

Learning Outcomes:

  • How to recognise online abuse and the impact it has on women’s working and private lives through the sharing of real life examples.
  • How to set up your social media accounts and profiles with safety in mind, using privacy and security settings.
  • How to deal with online abuse including how to report abuse and support your own wellbeing.

Please note: The zoom link to access the online training session will be sent out closer to the session date.

This training has a hands on component, so please bring your mobile device to the session.

The Social Media Self Defence Training for Women is a partnership between eSafety Women, Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges Councils and EDVOS.
