Event Details

There are no words to describe the phenomenon that is Marian Petrescu, Romanian-born jazz pianist extraordinaire, not surprisingly hailed by some as “the best jazz pianist in the world”.

With his background of solid classical training, dazzling technique and dynamic interpretation. Marian Petrescu is passionately interested in jazz and the adventurous world of improvisation.

Petrescu made his debut at the Pori Jazz festival at the young age of 15. Since then his career has been characterised by international success. He has performed in Australia, Mexico City, Oslo, Vienna and Paris, as well as the Kremlin Classical Piano Festival in Russia and is presently living in Finland.

Marian has played with many stars: Arturo Sandoval, Toots Thielemans, James Morrison, Al Jarreau, Didier Lockwood, Jon Larsen, Richie Beirach, Tony Williams, Ulf Wakenius, Ray Charles band, Lars Danielsson, Riccardo Del Fra, Ron McClure and Hot Club de Norvege. Marian’s style is eclectic and he enjoys all styles of jazz, from ragtime to modern. His mentor in Paris, Martial Solal, calls Marian “the Horowitz of Jazz Piano”, his touch is distinct and clear as glass, obviously inspired by Oscar Peterson.

Marian Petrescu is greatly inspired by Oscar Peterson, a true legend of the 20th century. Maybe that's why US studio technicians have called Marian “Oscar Peterson on steroids”. Petrescu has received standing ovations over the whole world for breathing life back into the wonderful legacy of the Canadian jazz Goliath.

When it comes to jazz, Marian Petrescu will quite simply blow your mind.
