Come and try "taster" swing dancing class: Balboa

Come along and try swing dancing with us! This class will give you a taste of what swing dancing is all about and get you on the dance floor in no time.

No partner or experience required!

WHAT IS A FOLLOW? WHAT IS A LEAD? WHICH SHOULD I CHOOSE?

There are two roles in swing dancing: follow and lead. Both are equally important, challenging, and fun. We like to describe the roles like this: the follow is driving the car, and the lead is holding the map. The lead will tell the follow “there’s a left turn ahead” and the follow chooses how to execute that turn, or whether to turn the car at all. You can choose whichever role you like. If you still aren’t sure that’s no problem – you can sign up as “undecided” and choose when you get to class. We recommend learning both roles! But do please stick to your chosen role for the duration of the class to avoid confusion.
