Night Beat presents “HAMMOND SHOWDOWN!”, featuring 3 of Australia’s finest organ players - the internationally recognised CLAYTON DOLEY, keys maestro DARREN HEINRICH & soul sensation JOHNNY G, plus special guest vocalist PAT POWELL along with Illya Szwec, (guitar) Jan Bangma (bass) and Evan Mannell (drums).

In the 50’s, Jimmy Smith, the Hammond Organ’s most famous and charismatic exponent, created an indelible link between 1960s soul and jazz that has reverberated through much of 20th Century music. Fast forward to 2017 and this all-star lineup continues to be influenced by the the likes of Smith, Booker T Jones, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, “Groove” Holmes, Doctor Lonnie Smith, and so many others… you get the picture.

Come along on this journey through music history as we explore the hip-shaking tunes and the cool, infectious grooves that would not have been possible without The Hammond and the dramatic, vibrato-laden sound of the rotating Leslie speaker.
