Have a weekend to spend developing a learning community with like minded locals?
November 2017 will see a unique opportunity come to fruition for Bouddi communities. Local permaculture trainers Paula and Ian Paananen will be teaming up with local permaculturist Suzi Cutcliffe to offer a basic permaculture training specific to the Bouddi coastal bioregion.
Gardeners, farmers, homeowners and prospective buyers of land and homes will benefit from the energy-saving and productive insights of permaculture, while students and professionals in the fields of ecology, agronomy, resource management, architecture, and planning will find their work enlivened by the holistic and interdisciplinary perspective of the course. Community development and aid workers, council workers and community leaders will find practical and creative applications for permaculture design in their respective fields of endeavor.
This course will introduce you to:
All proceeds of the course will benefit the ‘One Passionfruit Project’ - sharing knowledge to improve food security in impoverished communities (onepassionfruit.org)
The course will be facilitated by international permaculture trainer Paula Paananen, permaculture graduate and local practitioner Suzi Cutcliffe and horticultural scientist and consultant Ian Paananen.
Paula Paananen trained as a social scientist and has spent her career working in the area of community development. Since being awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2004, her work has focussed on using horticulture as a tool to assist in rehabilitation and skills building. She has developed several therapeutic garden programs in addition to the Paananen's 5 acre permaculture home site. She has spent the past ten years working with developing and war torn communities in Uganda, Solomon islands and Northern Iraq using permaculture as a tool to build food security and strengthen communities.
Ian Paananen has spent his career working as an Agricultural scientist and has run a successful consulting company for the past 20 years. His technical skills in horticulture complement his agroecological approach. He offers expert advice to communities and business wanting to move towards a more sustainable approach to agriculture. He has worked with high risk farming communities and assists to find permaculture based solutions to land degradation and food production.
Suzi completed her Permaculture design Certificate in 2015, training with Paula and Ian Paananen and Rosemary Morrow. She is all about getting hands in the dirt, growing food, and working with others to learn more and grow more.
