Darryl Browne – Principal, Browne, Linkenbagh Legal Services
Topic: Assessing Mental Capacity
It is now more important than ever that practitioners are familiar with the legal requirements for assessing legal capacity and Darryl Browne is well-equipped to provide Newcastle practitioners with all the tools required. He is the principal of Browne, Linkenbagh Legal Services and is an Accredited Specialist in Wills and Estates, a member of STEP and the SMSF Association, and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Darryl is a Councillor of the Law Society. He Chairs its Elder Law, Capacity and Succession Committee. He facilitates the Elder Abuse Working Group. Darryl is a member of the LCA’s Elder Law and Succession Committee. He is a member of the State Government’s Steering Committee on preventing and responding to elder abuse.
Darryl is a keen writer of legal articles, writing bi-monthly Case Notes on wills and estates for LSJ. The February 2018 LSJ has an article by Darryl on best practice safeguards to prevent elder abuse. He is also a regular contributor to a wide range of other legal journals.

Topic: Common taxation issues facing solicitors working in Wills and Estates
Prior to coming to the bar, Marcel was a solicitor in the commercial litigation team at Herbert Smith Freehills. Marcel was an Associate to the Honourable Justice Emmett in the Federal Court of Australia and then Tipstaff to his Honour on the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
Marcel is the editorial summary writer for the Butterworths Corporations Law Bulletin published by Lexis Nexis and a headnoter for the Australian Law Reports.
Gregory George - BarristerTopic: Family Provision claims- an update
All 2017’s published family provision decisions are considered by Gregory to enable participants to quickly appreciate current concepts and trends and it is also a database which may be used to compare clients’ claims.
Gregory (Greg) George was admitted as a barrister in 1992. He has a commercial and equity practice that principally includes corporation’s law, property law, wills and estates and asset recovery proceedings.
Greg has bachelors’ degrees in law (UTS) and commerce (Auck) and masters’ degrees in law (UTS) and applied finance (Macq).
From 2001 until 2006 Greg was a member of the Attorney General’s Working Party on Civil Procedure in New South Wales and he is an advocacy instructor.
