This six week beginner bonsai course covers the essentials for creating, styling and maintaining bonsai. By the end of the course, students will have taken home five potted bonsai and be confident in how to nurture their creations. This course is perfect for those wishing to gain experience in different styles including: informal upright, cascade, forest and literati. Held in the Terrace Room each Wednesday for 6 weeks. Suitable for ages 8+. Please note, this course will require a minimum of ten participants to go ahead. Please note the course will not run on Anzac Day 25 April.

  • Introduction
  • History
  • Styles
  • Tools
  • Materials

Session 2: Wednesday 11 April

  • Create a bonsai from raw material
  • Learn trimming, wiring, potting, etc.

Session 3: Wednesday 18 April

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn feeding and tree health

Note: No course on the 25 April

Session 4: Wednesday 2 May

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn annual maintenance

Session 5: Wednesday 9 May

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn pest management

Session 6: Wednesday 16 May 

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn pruning and future development
