Health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. It is influenced by individual and systemic factors (https://health.gov/communication/literacy/quickgui....)

Presenters:

Dr Ruth Walker, Lecturer at Flinders University, teaches the topic Health Issues and Disability in the Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education and has a strong interest in this area. Her presentation on 'Access to health information and services for people with disability' will provide information on the current approaches to health and well-being for people with disability and the services available. 

Jayne Lehmann, Diabetes Educator with EdHealth Australia, is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association and has significant expertise in the area of diabetes in people with disability, as reflected in the tittle of her presentation ‘Diabetes and people with disabilities’. Jayne will educate attendees on diabetes and its management with particular relevance to individuals with disability.
