Steve Grieve and The Mourners inhabit a virtual Neverland of hazy musical dreams, outback chicanery, and hybrid rock, roots and urbane blues edifices - that’s correct. Since its fiery inception some decades ago in Canberra the band has been a vehicle for the songwriting of Steve Grieve (guitar) and Dan Myles (vocals). Performing alongside iconic acts Dr. Feelgood, Johnny Winter, and Lonnie Mack, the band enjoys an improbable yet mythical cult status on an increasingly vast yet desultory Australian musical landscape.

The new album Caterpillar Maze has received much critical acclaim since its release in December 2017 - featuring continuously in the top 15 of the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay Charts, and most recently nominated in the Independent Blues Broadcaster’s Association (UK) top four “Presenter's Picks of the Month” for May 2018.

The band boasts a stellar and committed cast of players - Greg Royal on bass (Wendy Matthews, Kate Ceberano, Ian Moss), Mick Skelton on drums (Baby Animals, Thirsty Merc, Sarah McLeod) and Brendan St. Ledger on keyboards (Glenn Shorrock, Marcia Hines, Lily Dior). Dan is recently returned from a 14 year hiatus in the US where, immersed in both West and East coast music scenes, he also recorded a fine solo album. Steve’s other performance credits include lengthy stints with Margaret Urlich, Christine Anu and sundry others, including both Elvin Bishop and the legendary Jimmy Witherspoon.

The ‘Back On Top Down Under’ tour will feature the band performing tunes from their back catalogue as well as from Caterpillar Maze, and promises to be a truly unique and inspired affair. Musicians of this calibre performing new and acclaimed Australian work such as this is rare and noteworthy, and qualifies this limited run of shows as must see events for roots, blues and rock music aficionados.

“Albums like these are what makes music the addictive injection it is, and more so when they arrive unexpectedly and wallop you like a ten ton tablet.” - Duncan Smith, Top Shelf Music 89.7FM
