Julia Andrews - Regional Development Australia - Latest Programs and Initiatives impacting business and our communities. 

Julia Andrews is the Executive Director of Regional Development Australia Central West, a not-for-profit organisation supported by the Federal Government committed to the economic development of the NSW Central West region. RDA Central West’s mission is to promote new thinking and partnerships across government, industry and community to realise the region’s vision and economic potential.

In 2016, Julia published a report investigating Value Adding opportunities for agricultural businesses in Central West NSW, identifying ag-tech as a key opportunity for the region.

Julia recently completed an exciting collaboration with NSW DPI International Engagement Team designed to increase awareness of regional SMEs about opportunities to tap into e-commerce in China.
RDA Central West’s next big project, “Farm to Institution”, modelled on a US program and a first in Australia, will create new pathways to markets for regional producers into institutions such as hospitals, aged care facilities, schools and universities.

Julia has lived Central West NSW for over twenty years, working in the wine and tourism industries and in local government. Julia and her husband James have two children – Angus 17 and Eleanor 14.
Julia has a Graduate Degree in Communications, majoring in Journalism, from the Queensland University of Technology and an Arts degree, majoring in Political Science from the Australian National University.

Julia says we are now in a state of change – with some regional communities shrinking as others grow. But the overall future is bright, and the regions represent significant opportunities and solutions as population growth impacts quality of life in our major cities. But regional development is a long-term game, not one that can be restricted to short term election cycles. Julia believes that organisations like RDA are essential as a conduit for authentic, grass roots regional knowledge and information back to State and Federal Governments – a bottom-up rather than top down approach to regional development.
