This six week beginner bonsai course at the National Arboretum Canberra covers the essentials for creating, styling and maintaining bonsai. By the end of the course, students will have taken home five potted bonsai and be confident in how to nurture their creations. This course is perfect for those wishing to gain experience in different styles including: informal upright, cascade, forest, literati and broom. Held in the Terrace Room each Wednesday for 6 weeks, 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Fee includes all tuition, material and bonsai. Suitable for ages 8+. Please note, this course will require a minimum of ten participants to proceed.

Session 2: Wednesday 24 October 2018

  • Create a bonsai from raw material
  • Learn trimming, wiring, potting, etc.

Session 3: Wednesday 31 October 2018

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn feeding and tree health

Session 4: Wednesday 7 November 2018

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn annual maintenance

Session 5: Wednesday 14 November 2018

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn pest management

Session 6: Wednesday 21 November 2018

  • Create another style of bonsai
  • Learn pruning and future development
