You have an idea for a boutique product, but there’s so many parts to consider. How do you successfully bring your idea to market? You can’t be expected to know what you don’t know.

Bringing your idea to life can be challenging, but ultimately, also, very rewarding. It’s virtually impossible to make it happen without an extensive consideration of commercial outcomes and viability. Ignore this and you’ll waste valuable time, money and emotional labour.

This workshop will help you move from idea to action. It aims to help you assess if your product is viable. You may be a passionate designer or marketer with a great idea, but do you have the specialised knowledge and skill-set to physically get your product to market successfully?

In this workshop you’ll:

  • ·Understand the key elements for your product’s viability
  • ·Learn which retail business model best suits your product and how it impacts price
  • ·Learn how to make smart pricing decisions
  • ·Discover the essential elements of pricing
  • ·Understand why material choices & design affect your position in the marketplace and ultimately your product
  • Gain plenty of industry insights, stories from experience and business resources

You'll walk away with better insight and understanding to make informed decisions about what product that aligns your interests and, where your product sits in the marketplace and the essential elements of pricing.

Further workshops covering the next stages of the development process are being planned.  Dates TBA.

You should attend if you:

  • ·Are considering starting an apparel/ accessory business, or are in the early stages of starting.
  • ·Have been looking to develop a product, either as a passion project, as part of a portfolio career or a fully-fledged small business.
  • ·Have started researching, but feel overwhelmed and confused about the best direction to take
  • ·Know what you want to produce, but don’t know where to begin
  • ·Want to fast-track your understanding and knowledge of product development from an industry expert
  • ·Want a really strong understanding of the best price structure for a variety of retail business models.

**This is a small event with limited seating, in order to explore people's ideas and questions more thoroughly.

**Complimentary tea, coffee and light snacks will be provided.

About the Organiser:

Hi, I'm Louise Weigall.  I'm a Production Consultant and coach for boutique designers. I love strong coffee daily, listen to business podcasts weekly and will always find a reason to buy new shoes every season.

I work with small business owners, specialising in textile and apparel product, as an experienced and trusted advisor to help them understand what it takes to create high quality and profitable products.

My business provides industry relevant advice on how to navigate the obstacles around process, planning, sourcing, production and price.  I'm a listener, more than a talker, who genuinely cares about helping others reach their potential and bring their product to market.

Formerly a knitwear designer and producer, I have unique insider knowledge of both top tier and mid market labels on fit, fabric, price and customer. I have an extensive work history managing the product lifecycle for high profile and boutique Australian fashion labels including Scanlan Theodore, Country Road, Willow, Anna Hoffmann, Sass & Bide, Yeojin Bae, Jag and Grab Denim.

Style with Substance now gives me an avenue to support the potential of boutique product designers seeking to fulfil their creative and entrepreneurial potential.
