Pornography has become a parenting issue we can’t afford to ignore…

  • Move than 90% of boys aged between 13 and 16 have seen pornography
  • More than 60% of girls aged between 13 and 16 have seen pornography online
  • 88% of scenes of the most popular pornography include physical aggression
  • About 30% of all internet traffic is pornography related

Readily available and aggressively marketed online, exposure to hardcore pornography is now mainstream. Pornography has become a default sex educator for many young people, with serious implications for their capacity to negotiate free and full consent, for mutual respect, sexual health, and gender equality.

Our next Knox Parent Information Session will be led by Maree Crabbe, Director of the violence prevention project Reality & Risk: Pornography, young people and sexuality.

Maree is Co-Producer and Co-Director of the documentary films Love and Sex in an Age of Pornography, broadcast on SBS in Australia and in ten other countries, and The Porn Factor, broadcast on SBS. She is also author of In The Picture – a whole school resource to assist secondary schools to address the influence of explicit sexual imagery.

Maree’s articles on young people, sexuality and pornography have been published online and in print media.
