Autism and Gender

Barb and Nelle's dynamic Gympie workshop series will compare gender differences between males and females on the Autism Spectrum. Autism traits in girls are under-recognised and often go undiagnosed. Many women don't receive a diagnosis until adulthood - missing out on early intervention and more importantly appropriate support.

The Workshop will explore the complexities of gender and identity, and the disconnect from stereotypes often felt by individuals on the autism spectrum.

Workshop outcomes include: -

• establishing learning styles
• strategies, techniques and tools for successful engagement
• decoding behaviours that mask anxiety
• support strategies for educational and personal transitions

About the Presenters

Barb Cook is an adult on the Autism Spectrum who was diagnosed at the age of 40. Barb is editor and co-author of the international best selling book, Spectrum Women: Walking to the Beat of Autism and editor in chief of Spectrum Women Magazine. Barb is a passionate autism advocate, writer, international speaker and is currently pursuing a Master of Autism.

Nelle Frances is an author, parent to an autistic son and a passionate advocate. Nelle has a background in Education and has extensive experience with AS clients of all ages. Nelle delivers her accredited Autism Sensory Detective Workshop nationally and internationally, and consults with clients in the Gympie region.
