People learning to sing need opportunities to sing to people! And doing it in a real Sydney performance space is a fantastic thing! Maybe we’re young, maybe we’re older. Yes, it’s always a bit scary...but exhilarating too, and we wonder if this is the most wonderful or most stupid thing we’ve ever done, but we do it! And we need a little bit of pressure…or maybe a lot, to make the learning process meaningful. So how lovely for folk who aren’t ‘friends and rellies’ to come along and cheer along this group of students from Nadia Piave’s singing studio in their first public performances – they’re preparing HSC and tertiary audition material, Open Mic tunes, and repertoire for their own cabaret shows, and they need a caring supportive audience! A fantastic, fandjango of a night filled with fun…and that frisson that you get just before you go on stage! It never leaves you…
Nadia Piave is a teacher and independent performer in Sydney. She teaches students from a range of music backgrounds and performs music from the renaissance through to ‘world’ cabaret and Jazz standards. Her latest CD release Cinema! (that’s right, a CD! Rising like a phoenix they are…) is a collection of songs from films of Fellini and Truffaut, accompanied as always, exquisitely, by Mauro Colombis on piano and Gino Pengue on Guitar.
