Details
Discover nature's colour pallet in our natural textile dying workshop. You'll learn how to select and prepare textiles for dying, how to harvest local dye plant materials (wattle, eucalyptus...) & use commercially prepared dyes (madder, saffron, logwood, sappanwood...). Then it's time for you to embrace your creativity and put colour to cloth under the guidance of an experienced textile artist. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist technique that results in beautiful designs on textiles. You’ll explore the possibilities of tying, clamping and more as an introduction to Shibori. During this half day course you'll produce a sample & two scarves to take home to begin your journey into natural textile dying.
Includes homemade yummy morning tea. All materials supplied. Additional scarves available for purchase at $9.00 each on the day.
THE VENUE
Located a stones throw from the shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie, 1hr drive north of Hornsby, in Blackalls Park (Newcastle Region), only 10mins from the Pacific Motorway. This workshop will be held at the urban permaculture property of Michelle, in her home textile studio and converted dye barn from an old stable. Nestled on the edge of a paperbark forest, you'll be surrounded by a thriving garden, ducks and a chook or two!
