Overview: 

A three hour interactive training designed for staff who may have contact with people sleeping rough in their day to day role within the Knox Region.
Learning outcomes for participants
• A better understanding of homelessness and why people sleep rough
• Understand the Knox Homelessness & Rough Sleeping policy and procedure
• A better understanding of how to respond when confronted with someone who is homeless or sleeping rough

Our facilitator:
Rose Vince (Community Development Project Officer – Homelessness – Community Wellbeing) Rose has extensive experience working within homeless sector. For over the last six years Rose has been working as the Knox Housing Support Officer, with a good understanding of the increasing homeless situation within Knox. Before coming to Knox Council, Rose worked as a qualified trainer with Department of Housing within Health and Human Services.

Guest Speaker:
Graduates from the Council to Homeless Persons – they will share their experiences of homelessness and rough sleeping to further staff understanding about the lived experience of homelessness.

Why the Training?
The homeless count has increased in most Knox suburbs in particular Boronia and The Basin with the homeless count doubling from 55 people in 2011 to 112 people in 2016. The training aims to provide Council and council staff with a clear and consistent approach to better assist people who may be homeless or sleeping rough with in our community.
