I will meet you near the toilet block at the car park on Fairfield Park Drive. (near the enterance to Fairfield boathouse)

Fairfield boathouse is an historical landmark which is over 100 years old.

We will start our walk from Fairfield boathouse and walk along the  trail to Studley Park Boat house, where we will take a detour along the road and continue the last stretch to Abbottsford Convent.

On the grounds of the Convent, there's a great place to have lunch called "Lentils as Anything" or you go to the bakery next door.

If time permitted - we may get an opporunity to wander around the covent buildings or grounds before we return back to Fairfield Boathouse.

Back at the boathouse, you may even be tempted to stay at the boatshouse for their famous Devonshire teas (scones, cream and tea or coffee) before heading home.

WALKING ROUTE DETAILS:

Start at the Fairfield Boathouse (carpark entrance off Heidelberg Road Melways J12), cross over the high level pipebridge and turn right after the bridge to join the dirt track which follows along the left hand side of the river until we reach Fling Fox Lookout and the Bellbrid Picnic Area. From here we rise up to walk beside Yarra Boulevard for a way before descending back down beside the river and passing Kanes Suspension Bridge to Studley Park Boathouse where we will take a detour along the road and continue the last stretch to the Abbottsford Convent.

We will cross over Kane's Bridge and turn left to walk along the right hand side of the Yarra past the old site of Deep Rock Swimming club, to Dights Falls. Turn right at Merri Creek and walk under the Eastern Freeway then follow the Main Yarra Trail on the right bank of Merri Creek. Just after the old Fairfield Hospital, turn right to join the path which crosses Yarra Boulevard once more and goes beside the NMIT Campus through Fairfield Park back to the Boathouse.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes so we can start walking at 10:30am sharp.

Please wear appropriate clothing for the day..ie:

  • Hiking Shoes
  • Rain Coat
  • Hiking Poles
  • Comfortable hiking clothes
  • Back Pack - fully loaded (optional)

Limited free 4-hour (7am -7pm) and disabled car parking is available at the top of Fairfield Park Drive, in the car park off Heidelberg Road. As an alternative if you are wanting to stay longer there are no restrictions on Heidelberg Rd after 9:30am.

When it is busy on weekends, during school holidays and when the weather is warm, leave enough time to park and walk to the venue.

The nearest train station is Fairfield on the Greensborough/Hurstbridge/Eltham Line, and the 546 bus line runs regularly along Heidelberg Rd.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

This gathering is for the purpose of connecting with fellow pilgrims who have walked the Camino or wish to walk the Camino in the near future.

The intention is to keep the spirit of the Camino alive within our hearts, and they are a great opportunity to get to know each other, share our Camino stories and hopefully inspire others to embark on their own pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
