Please join us for a 60 minute webinar on the Shared Debt Recovery Scheme.

Amendments to the Health Insurance Act 1973 recently commenced introducing a Shared Debt Recovery Scheme, which applies to services provided by medical practitioners under the Medicare Benefits Scheme from 1 July 2018. The Scheme enables the Commonwealth Government to recover repayment of Medicare compliance debts from both a medical practitioner and another party (such as a medical practice), which become payable as a result of incorrectly claimed Medicare benefits. The Commonwealth Government will do so by making a shared debt determination.

It is important for medical practitioners and medical practices to understand when and how the scheme may apply.

Dominique Egan from Meridian Lawyers and Stuart Chan from Cutcher & Neale will discuss the operation of the scheme, as well as the commercial aspects of the arrangement, case studies and practical steps that both practitioners and medical practices must consider to protect themselves.
