The Men of Lah

What happens when Australia’s leading Jazz musicians get let out at night?

It is a very good question that will be answered on Saturday the 14th December.

Australia’s most loved children’s band, the 2-time ARIA nominated Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band, will be in Preston and Caulfield on the 14th and 15th of December in the early daylight hours, but come nightfall the band will take off their stripy socks and be joined by local Melbourne greats Ronny Ferella (drums, percussion) and Geoff Hughes (guitar).

The members of Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band, stars of ABC KIDS TV, lead double lives. They are also highly renowned musicians who have performed and toured with the likes of The Catholics, Monsieur Camembert, Ten Part Invention and The Australian Art orchestra - just to name a few.

Lah-Lah was created to introduce kids to music and musical instruments. Their music is a mixture of jazz and world music with a bit of good old fashion rock ‘n’ roll. “No Lah-Lah show is ever musically the same”, says lead singer of Lah-Lah Tina Harris. “The band improvise and play solos just the way they would at a grown-up gig, it’s what makes the family shows so exciting and alive!”

“We found that parents also wanted to have an opportunity to hear the band play more. We get requests on social media about doing a grown-up night-time gigs and that’s how it all started” says Gary Daley renowned composer/piano accordionist and Squeezy Sneezy from Lah-Lah.

Three years ago, while on tour performing daytime shows for kids, the band added a date night gig option when traveling interstate. “It’s a wonderful way to collaborate and play with local artists, and it makes for one great night of amazing music.” Said Mark Harris, Lah-Lah’s double bass player.

For this concert the members of Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band are joining forces with two of Melbourne’s jazz stalwarts, drummer Ronny Ferella and guitarist Geoff Hughes, both highly renowned musicians. Also guesting with Lah-Lah as Santa Claus is the amazing James Greening, playing a total of five instruments in the show. The result is a unique ensemble bursting with creative possibilities. It is going to be one amazing weekend of music for children and their families!
