Bob Downe
One of Australia’s most loved and enduring comedy characters, the creation of journalist, comedian,
actor and broadcaster Mark Trevorrow. Mark was born in Melbourne, trained as a journalist at the
Herald Sun, and moved to Sydney in 1982 with the huge success of his cabaret group, The Globos.
He created Bob Downe in 1984 and has toured the world as the Prince of Polyester ever since. Bob’s
stage shows premiered to acclaim at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, with multiple seasons across the
country including P&P Comedy cruises and performing for the Queen at the Royal Variety Gala.
Bob’s TV appearances were hosting the 2010 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Grad Parade broadcast for
Foxtel/Arena. He is heard regularly on ABC Local Radio and his 2004 nostalgic talkumentary series
‘The Way We Were’ was a ratings winner on the national broadcaster. He also featured regularly on
Kath & Kim, as ‘Darryl’ the menswear salesman.
