Join our Indigenous Visitor Services Officer for a guided walk and yarn around the Arboretums Bush Tucker Garden and Southern Tablelands Ecosystems Park where you will see native plants that are used for medicinal, culinary and Cultural use. This walk will bring the landscape to life allowing you to gain a deeper respect for Aboriginal Traditions and Culture.
The Australian bush is full of food including edible fruits, roots, nuts, seeds and leaves and for thousands of years until the present, Aboriginal people have gathered, hunted and harvested with techniques built on an intimate knowledge of the landscape. See some of the plants used for food, trade, shelter, Ceremony and warmth and hear how landmarks and the landscape played a role in survival.
Be guided on the use of stones axes, coolamons, skins and clapsticks with a hands on artefact display and participate in traditional ochre use. Hear why Caring for Country is vital and continues to play a significant role in Culture today.
Included in the tour is a Ngala Tours cotton drawstring Dilly Bag that contains samples of food such as mountain pepper flatbread, using flavours and ingredients from the Australian bush.
These immersive and enjoyable tours are a relaxing way to learn about Aboriginal Culture in a beautiful bush setting.
Meet at 'The Clearing' located within the Southern Tablelands Ecosystem Park (STEP).
